The Groovin the Moo lineup announced just last week caused quite the stir in the Radar office – what a killer collection of artists! It’s the first time bands like The Maccabees have ever been to Australia and seeing City and Colour live after Dallas Green dropped “Little Hell” last year…. Let’s just say I made an annoying little chew toy like noise when I found out.
But instead of crapping about how excited we are (SOME TICKETS ON SALE TODAY PEOPLE AHHHHH!) we thought we would share with you some quirky little facts about each of the artists so you can get peaking yourself.
If you know any more, drop them in the comments. We have no secrets here…
DID YOU KNOW…
360 – His real nickname is Uncle 6 dog – well Illy told us to call him that so he could be lying. He also doesn’t actually hate Short Stack, just their music. If you didn’t hear too, he got engaged on the 13th of Feb! (That would have been a dreary Valentine's day if she said no!) Here he is explaining the whole Short Stack ordeal...
Adrian Lux – He started out as a hip-hop and Reggae DJ in Sweden – and was good! The track we know him best for “Teenage Crime” performed better in Australia than anywhere else, including his home country!
Wavves – Nathan Willams from the band is dating Bethany from Best Coast… they’ve known each other since they were teenagers. They are also surprised people care about knowing that kind of stuff… this Much Music interview is one of the better ones I’ve found of the two together.
Andrew WK (One Man Tour Party) – follow him on Twitter. ‘Nuff said. Who wouldn’t follow someone who tweets “Party Tip: 1) Get down on your stomach 2) Put a magazine on your head 3) Quickly say the word “butterball” over and over. Sold!
San Cisco – They almost didn’t release Awkward first! They had “Rocketship” recorded way earlier and at the last minute did the old switcheroo. Crazy huh! A little birdy also told me they’ve just come out of the studio with some new tracks in the bag too. Exciting stuff.
Beni – he used to be in Bang Gang, then became one half of Riot in Belgium where he used to always wear a helmet all the time.
Big Scary – Tom (one half of Big Scary) has a side project called Dad’s… not sure if he is still working on it. But this track is really sweet:
Bluejuice – The used to be a hip hop group – WTF! I actually thought I didn’t know that myself until I heard this track… and it all came flooding back.
City and Colour – Reegan alleges he broke up Alexis on Fire (Dallas Green’s original band) after telling him he liked City and Colour better. In the same vain, he also killed Michael Jackson.
Chiddy Bang – Chiddy holds the Guinness World Record for the Longest Freestyle Rap and the Longest Marathon Rapping record after rapping continuously for 9 hours, 18 minutes and 22 seconds: never breaking for more than 3 seconds. Yowza!
Digilatism – Jens & Ismail started out as DJ’s (wow, who knew) but interestingly, the only reason they started producing their own tracks is because they were Dj-ing so much they ran out of things to play.
The Getaway Plan – when the band broke up back in 2009 it was basically one person’s decision. I’m guessing Clint Spattering’s who was playing with Amity Affliction. Does anyone know? Or care now they are back together and killing it.
Gold Fields – Vinci’s (guitar & backup vox) mum told him not to get into music. We’re glad he didn’t listen. He has his own sound studio in Ballarat (where the entire band reside).
Hermitude – One half of Hermitude Luke develops iphone apps on the side! We’re waiting on a Hermitude one to be developed… maybe it could be like Tap DJ… but it would need to have animal sounds in the mix. Here the guys are talking about their crazy extra skills...
Hilltop Hoods – 6 albums – can you believe that? Diehard fans will already know this of course. For their Rider, the Hoods drink whisky & water – so if you’re really diehard and want to sneak backstage, I recommend hanging round the gate armed with a bottle for bribery purposes.
Kaiser Chiefs – They released The Future is Medieval last year via their website, where fans could essentially make their own album by picking their fave 10 tracks from the 20 they produced. Unfortunately the whole plan backfired when the band went to tour the album – what tracks do you play? Some fans wouldn't have heard all of them. Good idea in theory boys, much like communism.
Kimbra – she’s dating Miami Horror band member Josh, *Men break down in tears across the nation*. She can also fit her entire fist into her mouth… just kidding (although I’m pretty sure that’s the truth). Here's when we made her an Australian citizen...
The Maccabees – They once got the Dodworth Colliery Band to cover their single “Can You Give It”. You can download it for free here… if you love straight up school band brass - word.
Matt Corby – There’s not much people don’t know about Matt since he is hyped to the max at the moment. He was on idol (tick), he’s Christian (tick - and probably why I can't find any dirt on him), and he’s got a beard (tick). If you hear anything else leave a comment! In the meantime check out our TOP 5 Matt Corby remixes.
Muscles – He wrote a song this year about Princess Beatrice’s Hat… this is gold. Check it out:
Mutemath – They supported Wolfmother on a US tour – weird that they’re not really that well known here. This video for typical earned them a Grammy nom in 2008 where everything is backward and they had to learn their parts backward too. Cool video, pretty sure Coldplay beat them to the punch with their 2002 release "The Scientist" though... (and Spike Jonz beat them to it with The Pharcyde's "Drop" 1995)
Naysayer and Gilsun – I don’t know enough about these guys to begin with to know any weird stuff. They’re a mashup duo from Melbs. Supposedly Diplo has already sung their praises. This is their most popular track “Naysayer and Gilson are in Love” – for real?
Public Enemy – They’re still political, but now they’re like “old man” political without a direct cause. It’s now like “racism’s bad”… well in what way? Ugh, the... general way. I’m not sure how widely known this is, but Flava Flav hooked up with Brigette Neilson, Stallone’s ex-wife on a US reality TV show. Yikes.
Parkway Drive – Frontman Winston plays the Harmonica and is angered by the fact it has no place in the band. Metal-core harmonica - guys I say take it on!
Purple Sneakers DJ's – they’re named after You Am I’s classic track Purple Sneakers. Good lads. Reegan is good mates with them so there are lot of crazy things he knows about them that I can't put in this article. Sorry!
