Deerhunter's Bradford Cox in Helicopter

OMG New Deerhunter music!

Is anyone else as obsessed with the lush, open-fields-of-lofi sounds of Deerhunter? You can never tell what frontman Bradford Cox will come up with next…. But you only have to hear him speak to know the hamster spinning wheels in his head could have a Harvard degree.

Considering their last album Halcyon Digest - hands-down my fave album of 2010 - was reminiscent of the Beatles later work laden with more watery layers of synth (produced by the same dude that did Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion) and atypical reverb-friendly guitars, this new track is something completely different altogether. And that’s part of the reason bands like Deerhunter will always hold a place in my heart… they’re the ultimate reinventors.

Titled “Curve” this instrumental track is to appear on a Blonde Redhead-curated compilation to benefit the victims of last year’s Japanese tsunami. (both Blonde Redhead and Deerhunter were out here for Laneway Festival 2011, I hope you caught them live)

Wait for the beat to softly snare in at the 5:20 mark… you’ll think you’re alone, lost in the Antarctic somewhere until then. If this track doesn’t grab you – and lets be frank it’s not a ball-tearing introduction to Deerhunter if you’re not already a fan – then make sure you still check out Helicopter (the 2nd video), it was the first single off Halcyon Digest… and I’m pretty sure views 200-333 are all solely mine… I manically looped it on repeat for an entire day when it came out. What a track.

Bradford also manifests his creativity solo under the moniker Atlas Sound and released an album Parrallax just last year. Make sure you pick it up if you're a Deerhunter fan. Okay? Good
