Warner Music and Muse are being sued to the tune of $3.5 million by a sci-fi rock opera writer.
Charles Bollfrass claims that 2009 track Exogenesis Symphony is a direct rip off of his rock opera of the same name.
According to NME, the sci-fi rock opera, penned back in 2005, tells the story of humankind colonizing other planets in order to further the race. Bollfrass allegedly contacted Muse, along with two other bands, with the prospect of scoring the opera, to which the trio rejected.
The man claims that three tracks from The Resistance, released in 2009, directly copy his idea, and that the cover art from the album feature an image from the storyboards he had sent the band.
The lawsuit somewhat dampens the excitement of the imminent release of The Second Law, the new album from the trio. Accompanying the release on October 1, Muse will play a short UK tour in the same month.
