Rizzle Kicks

Rizzle Kicks

Their debut album Stereo Typical went Top 5 in the UK, but Brighton duo Rizzle Kicks are yet to really make a splash here Down Under. No doubt they’re hoping that all changes with their spot on the Parklife festival. Indeed, once you hear their irrepressible hip-pop party tunes, it’s hard to ignore their cheeky charms.

Jordan ‘Rizzle’ Stephens and Harley ‘Sylvester’ Alexander-Sule met in high school, bonding over making mix tapes and football (hence the ‘Kicks’ bit in their name). Early demos of tracks like ‘Miss Cigarette’ and ‘Down with the Trumpets’ and their inventive DIY videos earned them the attention of various big labels including Universal Island, who signed them in late 2010.

With Stereo Typical dropping last year, the pair have already racked up three Top 10 hits in the homeland with a new version of ‘Trumpets’, ‘When I Was A Youngster’ and the Fatboy Slim-produced ‘Mama Do The Hump’. They’ve supported the likes of Dizzee Rascal and The Streets, played plenty of festivals and recently performed in London’s Hyde Park to celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay Finale with 80,000 people. Not bad for two lads who haven’t even turned 21 yet!
