Minibikes
It’s two parts joy, one part melancholy when it comes to the quirky-cute indie-pop charms of Melbourne’s Minibikes. On songs like the arrestingly infectiously ‘Time To Kill, they’re a bouncing ball of snappy drums, chiming guitars, handclaps and adorable boy-girl harmonies that add up to a whole lot of irresistable.
Minibikes first started revving in 2010 when vocalist/guitarist Marcel Borrack, (who sounds more than a little like Elvis Costello, we reckon), realised he needed a band to truly make his new songs sing. So he got his little motorcycle gang together - percussionist Al Barden, keyboard player Libby Chow (who played with Clare Bowditch and the Feeding Set), bassist Nathan Farrelly and guitarist member Rob Mackenzie – and started making their DIY debut album For Woods Or Trail. Released in June 2011, it’s a sweet, addictive breath of fresh air that’s well worth inhaling.
