Gypsy & The Cat
They're not gypsies and they're definitely not cats, but Melbourne duo Gypsy & The Cat are definitely a band to watch. Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers, both 21, have only been making music together for a year (in their garage), but they're already catching a lot of attention both here (Triple J have been caning them) and overseas (they've already been pimped seven times in English tastemaker NME).
Rejoicing in timeless, effortless electro-pop, the pair have now relocated to London to fry bigger fish and finish off their debut album with the help of producer David Fridmann (who worked on MGMT's Oracular Spectacular and various Flaming Lips records) and Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand). Having recently enlisted a full band to play live, no doubt we'll be hearing even more from this band very shortly.
