Formed from a free-wheeling jam session in 2009, breezy indie-pop foursome Buchanan (pronounced ‘Bew-Cannon’, people) have easily been one of Melbourne’s best kept secrets of late. Of course, if they keep releasing songs as good as their tune ‘Run Faster’, word won’t stay secret for long. All chiming melodies, pop ‘oohs’ and sailing falsetto, it’s a holiday for your earholes and one that easily puts a smile on your face and an extra swing in your step.
Rewinding back to 2010, the band self-funded a rough demos release entitled The Safety Beach before signing with Inertia (Aussie home of Sia, Bon Iver) in 2011 to deliver their first proper EP No Photo, which boasted alt radio hits like ‘Teachers’ and ‘Mr Keeperman’ . Along the way, they’ve ridden shotgun with the likes of Kimbra, Gypsy & The Cat and Jinja Safari as well as heading out on their own headline adventures. ‘Run Faster’ arrives as a warm-up for their forthcoming debut album, which is being honed and shaped as we speak.
