The Lazy Calm
Remember Tim And Jean, the Perth electro-pop pair (Tim Ayres and Jean Capotorto) who wrote super-happy synth hits like ‘Come Around’ and ‘I Can Show You’? Well, they split up late in 2012 and now Tim is heading up a new outfit with Alvyn Tan (guitars/keys), Lewis Moody (keys) and Jade Masters (drums). Thankfully they didn’t call themselves Tim And Alvyn And Lewis And Jade, instead opting for The Lazy Calm (named after their favourite Cocteau Twins song).
While a cool title, the name’s also a bit of a red herring. This is no lethargic, stoned-out chillwave act. Instead, it’s sparkly, souped-up electro-pop, evolving from Tim And Jean with more live band instrumentation and less-robotic vocals. Their first single is called ‘Where Are You Going Now?’ which is ironic given The Lazy Calm’s new direction is already abundantly clear.
